Endoscopic Stapling - MUSE SRS System

MUSE SRS System by Medigus for endoscopic stapling

MUSE™ SYSTEM

A note on availability: the MUSE system is no longer in production and is not sold today; its manufacturer's factory has closed. We worked with this technology, and we keep this page as a technical reference. The description below records how the system and the procedure worked.

"Mechanical problems are solved with mechanical methods" - an endoscope developed based on this principle;

Medigus 'MUSE™ eliminated the need for full-scale surgery in suitable patients, entering through the mouth to repair the damaged gastric inlet valve at the end of the esophagus. It treated gastric reflux, also known as hiatal hernia among the public, without incision, without blood, and without disrupting body integrity.

Accordingly, the MUSE System did exactly the same job as laparoscopic surgery. The only difference was that, unlike laparoscopy, no hole was made in the patient's abdomen. The procedure was performed only with a special video endoscope-Stapler-Ultrasound device called "MUSE Endoscope" developed specifically for this purpose and used by passing through the esophagus from the mouth.

For its time, the MUSE Endoscope represented the leading edge of endoscopy device technology. As a basic principle, the gastric fundus is wrapped around the loose gastric inlet junction to ensure compression of the valve. Thus, the open inlet valve structure is mechanically closed. This procedure is called partial fundoplication in medical terminology.

All physicians performing reflux surgery with the MUSE Endoscope underwent a series of certified special training programs both abroad and domestically. The procedure was performed under general anesthesia and took a maximum of 1.5 hours. The device used in the operation was single-use. The patient was discharged within 24 hours. After 12 hours from the procedure, normal liquid-based foods could be consumed, and after 24 hours, any desired foods could be consumed.

The MUSE Endoscope was used safely from 2008 onward.
